A Promise Was Made
02:54
|
|
||
The mouth was open
The flies poured out
Swirling into the sky
They blotched out the sun and
Devoured our minds and
Spread deceit to cover the cries
Of all that is holy and all that is dear
Let us gaze on in terror as it all disappears
Nothing will wash the dirt from these teeth
No alcohol, no steel
There will be no promises of forgiveness
Upon the breaking wheel
No fulfillment of unwritten contracts
Signed with a slight of hand
As we sow the seeds and reap the harvest
Of this barren land
A promise was made and
A promise was broken and
These are the words best left unspoken

Sexual Vertigo

[Cascade]
The machine cascades
She puts her hand onto my shoulder
The sound is the signal
The skin is the window
Closed circuit eyes
Black lipstick smeared across the mirror
[Decline]
The machine declines
Sequential lights indicate
Her behaviour is convincing
As if following instructions
She presses the red light and
The machine halts abruptly
She reaches into the briefcase and
Hands me a sealed nondescript envelope
Her eyes roll back
Into her skull and
Blood pours from the sockets
I remove a key from my coat pocket and
Drive it into her neck
[Ascent]
The machine ascends
Gears and levers churn
The woman was beautiful
Before I killed her
Almost human
I drag her corpse outside the machine and
Down the narrow hotel hallway
Leaving a trail of blood as we goes
Unlocked and illuminating the room
I am greeted by their motionless bodies, torn and strewn
Each with their eyelids removed
In dreams I can hear them laughing

Liminal Flesh
02:45
|
|
||
Falling prey to the illusion of hope
The dilation of time, then the pupils
Trajectory diverted
One hand on the wheel
The other over my mouth
Tracing each saccade across the moonlit freeway
The machinery grinds to a halt
Brakes squeal as gears turn in reverse
The rabbit's iris is as white as its fur
In the scattering light of the floods
Frozen in a state of suspended animation; of perpetual fear
Our eyes lock and
A faint sense of recognition creeps into my weary mind
Exiting through the passenger seat as the rabbit darts beyond the snowbank and towards the forest
My legs develop a will of their own and trudge obediently behind the rabbit tracks
Through the forest and towards the clearing
As if guided by some unfathomable, otherworldly force
Upon reaching the clearing, the tracks vanish
My feet begin to shiver in their boots, and as I grow aware of my surroundings, so does my skin crawl with terror
The dead branches of the birch trees bend and twist in the moonlight like contorted limbs.
Hanging from the limbs are innumerable skinless rabbits, inverted, swaying in the wind from their twine suspensions.
Their bodies have been preserved by the cold, and upon rubbing my eyes to adjust focus, I realize that the rabbits are not dead. (They are dreaming)
As I bend my neck back and
Gaze at the stars
My eyes turn white and
Our fear becomes one

The End Of A Rope
06:01
|
|
||
Don't let me die here
Whisper those words into my ear
You gave me life on the brink of death and
Bathed me in your tears
The ritual stripped of its meaning
Aperture dilating - Losing balance
Fingers bend and grasp for the ceiling fan
As the nurse crawls into the room
Contorted and abused
It is now the middle of the night and
The blinds are fully shut
So none of them can watch us take each others clothes off or
Synchronize our watches
Remove the needle from my arm and the bandages from my face and tell me that I'm pretty
Before it's too late
Don’t leave me forsaken
At the end of a rope
You brought me to laughter
In the absence of hope
That which was sacred has become the profane
My body is barren – Excreting it’s pain
The cables have been severed like the torso of the nurse.
It's important to remember how you ended up here first.
The bandages are gone now
So is my reflection
I pick up the receiver and
Recognize the laughter

Glove Anesthesia

Mannequins draped in cloaks of skin
Cast shadows across the candle lit curtain
Speaking in tongues
Inverting the womb
Inserting the blade
Removing the human
Consumed by an endless desire
To be torn from the womb of the other
To leave this world as one came into it
Covered in blood and screaming in terror
The deafening silence of liquid bodies
The theatre of trauma
Removing the human
The chains of desire
The blood on the stage
The funeral pyre
We fall apart like flowers
Reflected in shattered mirrors
If you were real I'd let you devour
The body of my child
Speaking in tongues
Inverting the womb
Inserting the blade
Removing the human

Divisible Organs
03:55
|
|
||
The mirror shatters
Electric light spills from the cracks
White and then black like
Radiation static
I turn around and find
The apparition of the rabbit
Exit stage left.
A shard of glass severs my tongue and
It writhes on the pitch black surface
as if animated by some horrible god
The audience is empty
A dial tone welcomes me
Hands without a body extend and guide the rope's ascent
Red curtains divide and reveal
The operating table
Some organs are divisible
Floodlights illuminate in rapid succession and my
Memories fade in reverse as I
Lay down on the table and
Let the division occur.

Stitched Nerve Drapery
06:30

Tunnels of twisted flesh
Adorned with featureless faces
Spiral beyond the threshold and
Into the sea of infinite blackness
Stitched nerve drapery cascading
A halo of flies surround the carcass of christ
With salt in each stigmatic wound
The umbilical cord between my teeth
Squirming like a leech
Dionysian aphrodisiac
Streams from the divide
Between the severed hemispheres
Unfolding in my mind
Rubber hands feel objects eyes see
Tightening around your neck
The hollow eyes of the crucified christ
Gazing up in ecstasy

Tapeworm Finds Its Host
04:56
|
|
||
We lay together on the harbour
Beneath the dancing stars
We spoke of the briefcase and its contents
How they might erase the past
The way your tears refract the light
The way I could not save you or
Place the revolver in your hand and
Spin Ezekiel's wheel
The confines of language are the bondage inside
No more safe words for speechless you
One last shot at liberation
Regression to the mean
The fragility of the human psyche is an achingly beautiful thing

Blindly crossing the threshold
No turning back
Not this time
The grey skies hang heavy
Waves crash against the rocks
The silent angel grasps my ankles and
I feel the cold water swallow me.
I feel it swallow me
(and in turn) I swallow it
She carefully removes the blindfold and
Begins inserting the metal hooks
Nerves unwind from skeletal spools
Forming red kaleidoscope webs
Sprawling across the visual field
Feeding the end through the eye of the needle
My silent angel makes her work
Seamlessly stitching the fractals of flesh
As tears of salvation stream from her eyes
And through my veins
(In waves of pain)
The meaning of life and
The meaning of death
Will both self-annihilate
In one final act
